    Key Takeaways

    • 1
Voicemail records a request; Lot Line answers it, texts the car and books the visit.
    • 2
A ballpark trade-in range on the call, the car held, and the call summary in one thread with an instant alert to the salesperson.
    • 3
Outbound AI calls go only to customers with AI-call consent, re-checked at dial time.
    Lot Line vs Voicemail

Two stores. Same car, same price, same Tuesday night. A shopper calls both at 8:52 pm.

Store A: "You've reached ABC Motors. Our sales department is currently closed. Please leave a message after the tone." The shopper hangs up.

Store B: "Thanks for calling XYZ Auto, I'm the store's AI assistant. What are you looking for?" A few minutes later the shopper has the car's link on their phone, an appointment Saturday at 10:30, and a confirmation text with the address.

Wednesday morning, Store B's salesperson has an appointment. Store A's has a voicemail light, if the caller left one.

    Quick answer

Voicemail records a request. Lot Line, the phone AI in CarSales AI, handles it: it answers, searches live inventory, texts the car's link during the call, books the appointment with the car attached and texts a confirmation. Voicemail is free; Lot Line is included on every dealership plan, and its minutes come out of the plan's monthly allowance.

"Won't customers hate talking to an AI?"

Some will. In our view, most people calling at 9 pm care more about getting an answer than about who gives it. Say up front that it's an AI assistant, keep it focused on cars and times, and keep the parts a person should do with a person: negotiating, credit decisions and final numbers.

    "What about during the day?"

Daytime calls ring out too: the Saturday rush, lunch, a short-staffed Monday. Talk to us during setup about which calls Lot Line should pick up on your line.

    "What about the law?"

Customers calling you is different from you calling them. For outbound calls, Lot Line only calls customers who gave AI-call consent, and every call is re-checked at dial time for consent, opt-out, Do Not Call and quiet hours. Our guide to AI phone agents and TCPA rules has the details. It isn't legal advice; have your counsel review your consent language.

What to check in week one

    • Look at every appointment and lead Lot Line created. Did it find the right cars?
    • Count after-hours appointments booked by phone, and how many of them showed.
    • Ask your salespeople whether the leads it saved were worth the call back.

If the answers are good, leave it on. If they aren't, turn it off. Plans are month-to-month.
