    Key Takeaways

    • 1
Search engines and AI assistants credit the domain that hosts the content.
    • 2
Inventory that only loads in a JavaScript widget is hard for many crawlers to read.
    • 3
You can keep your current website and publish inventory on a subdomain like cars.yourdealership.com.
Why Your Inventory Should Live on Your Own Domain

Many dealer websites show inventory through a third-party widget or link out to a listing vendor. It looks fine to shoppers. To search engines and AI assistants, it can mean your inventory belongs to someone else.

Find the Leaks in Your Dealership OS

Use the free Dealership OS Checklist to spot where leads, inventory, desking, follow-up, and reporting are costing you time or gross.

Takes under 10 minutes • No credit card required

    Credit follows the domain

When a vehicle page lives at vendor.com/dealer/12345/car, the authority that page earns — links, clicks, citations — builds the vendor's domain, not yours. When it lives at cars.yourdealership.com/inventory/2021-honda-cr-v, it builds yours.

    Crawlers need real pages

Google renders JavaScript, but slowly and not always. Many AI crawlers read the raw HTML only. If your prices and specs appear only after a script runs, they may never be seen. Each vehicle should be a real HTML page with its details in the text and structured data describing it.

What a good inventory site includes

    • One page per vehicle with price, mileage, specs, photos and a contact form
    • Car/Vehicle + Offer structured data on every vehicle, AutoDealer data for your business
    • A sitemap listing every vehicle, updated as inventory changes
    • A robots.txt that welcomes search and AI crawlers
    • An llms.txt summary for AI assistants
    • Forms that create leads in your CRM instantly

You don't have to rebuild your website

Keep your current site and add an inventory site on a subdomain. Link to it from your main navigation. If you later want one system for everything, move your whole website over.

CarSales AI publishes all of this on your own domain and keeps it in sync with your inventory and CRM. See dealer websites.
